how to read with the
compass of many paths
This is an experimental divination tool designed by James R. Eads. The compass is engraved on the outside and includes a faux-leather case with helpful keywords for interpreting the symbols depicted on the compass.
Get Acquainted
You will notice a knob on the side of the compass. Open the compass so that the message inscribed is upright and ensure that the knob is pulled all the way down. This will make it so that the compass needle wobbles back and forth as the compass is moved.The needle needs to move freely so that it can naturally gravitate North via its magnetic pull.
Test for Accuracy
Place the compass on a stable surface and wait for it to stop moving. Once it has settled, it should point North. As long as you continue to keep the compass in the same position, the needle should always settle over the same symbol. If you rotate the compass to be in a different position, the needle should still point in the same direction (North) but may land over a different symbol. Pushing the button up will lock the needle in place so that it no longer wobbles when moved. You can test that your compass is correctly pointing North by downloading a free compass app, placing the compass next to your phone and comparing the direction of the needles. They should be pointing in the same direction (North).
Ask
Hold the compass closed and meditate on your question. Move the compass until you are called to stop. Push the button up to pause the needle and reveal the message of the magic compass. Where did your needle land? Use the following guide to decipher the symbols.
