6.11.19 Early Days New Release

Early Days

I saw the end approaching,
it happens all the time;
One thing ending,
another beginning,
with no warning or big boom
just a collection of subtleties coming together.
But we hadn’t seen an ending like this
  since the early days.

So I hiked to the top of the mountain
in the dark of the endless night
expecting to say goodbye to everything I once knew.
I looked down at the village as it cradled the moon in its shadow,
preserving the last of the light we would ever see.
I waited up there for what we would have called days,
if night hadn’t blanketed the village for weeks.
They said the sun was gone for good
and it would never rise again.
No longer did we call these the early days
but the end of days.

But then sure enough, there it was,
the sun approaching,
and now it happens all the time.

Early Days is an 18" x 24" eight color screen print with a hand-painted black gouache background on 600gsm watercolor paper. This edition of prints is unique because it was made by creating a template for the flat black and then brushing on black gouache followed by an 8 layer screen print, in three different color variants! We did a lot of samples using different black inks but kept returning to the Jet Black gouache because of how rich the black looks. This is the same black I prep my panels with, we went through over 60 tubes of black and let me say, it was worth it; the deep black makes the colors pop and the print glows with vigor under black light. Prints are hand-signed and numbered in an edition of 40 per variant and comes with an accompanying poem/certificate of authenticity. And what's more - while these prints were printed we also created a suite of 9 test prints that have unique color combinations that use different colors from each variant.

Early Days will release on Thursday, June 13th at 4 PM PST at jamesreadsmerch, com

Because the paper is so so so thick these prints will be shipped flat in protective sleeves sandwiched between layers of double corrugated cardboard.
