5.16.18 For The Birds, From Below

"For the Birds, From Below"

Earlier this year I was commissioned by the folks at Collectionzz to create a print inspired by a classic 90's song as a part of their ongoing series "Art Unleashed: Rock Art for a Cause".

I chose "Scar Tissue" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers because it was one of those songs that I had on repeat as a teenager. There's a lot of nostalgia built into this song for me, I remember the music video playing on MTV and it really capturing that California desert vibe to perfection. With this piece I wanted to pay homage to the music video setting of Joshua Tree, which has become one of my favorite places in Southern California. The main hook of the song "with the birds I share this lonely view" was the driving inspiration for this piece. There is something comforting about the isolation of driving through the desert - you can see the raw beauty of the sunsetting for miles and miles.

What's really cool about this Collectionzz series is that a big chunk of sales will be going to charity. I decided on NAMI for my charity because there are a lot of people I have loved that have struggled and still struggle with mental illness and NAMI has been a great foundation for providing education and support on mental illness

"For the Birds, From Below" is an 18" x 24" five color screenprint on Coventry Rag paper with hand deckled edges. Prints are hand signed and numbered in a limited edition of 150.

There is also a small Rainbow Foil edition of 50, of which 20 prints are doodled on in the border.

Both variants will go on sale Tomorrow, Thursday May 17th at 11AM Pacific Time/2PM Eastern exclusively at www.collectionzz.com
