We are a small team making authentic, colorful, and detailed work featuring the distinctive art of James R. Eads. We make all of our prints from start to finish in our studio in Los Angeles and work with highly vetted, top-quality manufacturers for items that are not produced in-house. Together, we take pride in the craftsmanship and collective input that goes into each product we make. We put our hearts into every step of the process so that some of that passion can find its way to you. Below are a few things we're known for.
Inspiration is a funny thing, you can't ask for it or expect it, but if you are open to it, it will reveal itself in many forms. Light Visions Tarot, our first tarot deck, was created in 2014 after a tarot-inspired gig poster James made for the band Why?
Since then, James has created many more editions of Tarot and has even branched out to explore other divination methods such as Lenormand and Geomancy. Externalizing the spiritual into visual and tactile forms is a journey we all take joy in.
We mix all of our silkscreen inks by eye, testing each swatch against digital samples and adjusting accordingly. We use water-based TW inks that are archival, acid free and full of the richest pigments hand-pulled printed onto high quality 290gsm archival papers. Our giclées are carefully proofed and printed on a large-scale epson using archival pigmented inks on 290gsm Entrada paper. All limited edition prints are hand-signed, numbered and designed by James R. Eads.
Because we make our prints from start-to -finish in our studio we are able to add special elements to prints like gold-leafing, metallic inks, glow-in-the-dark inks and handmade marbled paper. Our handmade screenprinted notebooks utilize scraps from past editions, minimizing waste while creating a one-of-a-kind product our customers love.
Prisma Visions Gift Shop & Gallery is the brick-and-mortar counterpart to jamesreadsmerch.com. Situated in the heart of Los Angeles, the space features whimsical installations, a rotating exhibition of paintings, and a gift shop, each showcasing the various facets of James R. Eads' creative work. Open by appointment only.
For a long time I made art that existed in the realm of magical realism, unsure of why, other than an overwhelming sense of fascination for the spiritual. I followed my intuition and my love of the way that light can play tricks on the eye, and created a world to call my own that I continued to fill with places I'd never seen.
