King of Chalices
Waist deep in the estuary, the King of Chalices raises his hands. The river spirit launches out of his goblet, gushing and glittering as it shoots into the sky. Arcing across the evening, it becomes cloaked in autumn leaves, rustling and fluttering their moribund voices. Sheer force of will launches the water into a flowing serpent.

upright meaning:
reigning emotions • powerful conduit • in control
~
reversed meaning:
melancholy • disempowered • need for honesty
The inverted King strikes a melancholic figure; the water and metamorphosed serpent seem out of his sphere of influence. He suggests caution and latency in the querent, and may be a symbol that a relationship is seriously out of synchronicity. You may feel disempowered to act on your true feelings. Try to be honest with yourself, and if that fails, listen to the advice of others you love. Emotions, like coursing water, can erode the strongest structure over time. Take care that yours are being channeled into a help, nondestructive place.
