Guide to Tarot
THE MAJOR ARCANA
Traditionally, the Major Arcana of tarot explores the human psyche through the Fool’s Journey: a series of 21 cards that begin with the Fool and take the mind on a journey to enlightenment.
These cards explore the realm of human existence through ideas that flirt with the subconscious, the ego and the heart.
When we see Major Arcana cards in a reading they have a strong message attached to them. Each card carries intricate meaning that aims to unfold your mind to the inner-workings of your subconscious.
You will notice that all the Major Arcana cards have borders, while the Minor Arcana cards do not. This is for several reasons. The first is to highlight their importance in a larger spread. The second is because each card in the Major Arcana can stand alone and tell an entire sto.ry. Think of Major Arcana cards as episodes that create a season of a TV show. In each episode our character interacts with forces, both internal and external, that alter or change the course of their own enlightenment. Whereas, the Minor Arcana cards are all notes on an overarching theme. For example, Pentacles a suit of fourteen cards all revolve around themes of work, money, family, success, earth and like things.
On each card's page you will find a few key aspects that will help you further develop your card reading skills. You will next notice an italicized paragraph, which is a description and general tone for the card. It is recommended you read this paragraph with both upright and reversed cards as it pertains to the card no matter which direction it faces. Underneath the italicized paragraph you will find an upright and reversed meaning for the card as well as a few quick keywords. Remember, if you have a feeling from a card go with it, these meanings are not concrete and tarot readings are enhanced when you trust your intuition.
