Pisces & the Moon

Spring is just around the corner... depending on where you are, it might sound like the gentle trickle of melting snow. Here, cool, fresh water flows down hills, into valleys, replenishing thirsty pathways.

As the season changes, we enter the realm of Pisces, the mutable water sign ruled by Neptune. Like the start of Spring, Pisces can soften nature's harshest conditions into a welcome oasis of bird songs and wildflowers.

Just as the gentle rain and melting snow bring moisture to the end of winter, a Pisces has a natural tendency to nourish the seeds of creativity and dreams with their own gentle waters. They inspire others to resurface from their dens and gather whether it is to make art, share food, or simply to celebrate each others company. To be a mutable sign means to be somewhat of a shapeshifter. Pisces find themselves curious about a variety of cultures, hobbies, and mediums which makes them very socially adaptable, easy to talk to and connect with. Their sensitive nature and dreamy approach to life makes them a great friend but these traits can become a detriment to relationships when they go all in without really weighing the pros and cons or lose their own sense of self in the process of connecting with others. At times, Pisces' sensitivities can take the form of a stormy sea of emotions, an inconsistent temperament that can push people away. It can be very difficult to read what's going on under the surface and Pisces aren't always willing to reveal their vulnerabilities. Their intense intuition is at once a gift and a curse. To be so highly observant, even clairvoyant at times, can take its toll energetically causing some Pisces to build up resilient dams of self-protection.

The Moon tarot card is linked to Pisces through the appearance of illusions and dreams. Both represent the dark waters of secrecy, implying that there is always something more just underneath the surface. The moon casts light upon the shadowed corners of our world, illuminating truths that go unnoticed while we dream. It evokes imagination, uncertainty and the infinite possibilities of the unknown. The moon reminds us to lean into intuition while at the same time warning us not to be tempted by our imagination and wishful thinking. Naiveté in how we perceive the world, like the openness of a Pisces, gives us the beautiful gift of dreaming without bounds. A gift that will always be tethered to the risk of being deceived by our illusions.
